Welcome to PlateMate. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using PlateMate, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the app.

2. Account Registration

• You must provide a valid username, email address, and password to create an account.
• You must verify your email address before accessing the app's features.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must not create accounts for the purpose of abusing the app's features or other users.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the app only for its intended purpose of meal planning and recipe management. You must not:

• Use the app to distribute harmful, offensive, or illegal content.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app or its systems.
• Interfere with other users' use of the app.
• Use automated means to access the app (bots, scrapers, etc.).
• Share content that infringes on others' intellectual property rights.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of the meals, recipes, and other content you create in the app. By sharing content with other users through the app's social features, you grant those users the right to view and save that content.

5. Account Termination

• You may delete your account at any time from the app settings. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

5a. Data Retention

To maintain service performance, the app automatically removes certain data after a period of time:

• Meal plans older than 90 days are automatically deleted. Your saved recipes are not affected.
• Expired security tokens (password resets, email verifications) are periodically removed.
• Inbox messages older than 30 days are automatically cleaned up.

You can export your data at any time from the app settings before automatic removal occurs.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the app will be available at all times or free of errors. Meal plans and recipes in the app are for informational purposes only and do not constitute dietary or medical advice.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data or any health-related outcomes from following recipes or meal plans.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
